The 4th Gen nano is an elegant return to its predecessors before the 3rd gen 'fat' nano, slimmer, even more lightweight and comes in no less than 9 yummy colors.
Colors --> I'm incredibly biased in favor of purple among the other fruity colors, but if you're looking for a safe color that still packs a punch, then I suggest the silver one (with a black clickwheel - reminds me of MacBook Air) over the overly dependable (and bordering on boring, compared to the silver) black. Also, red never fails to wow. :)
Okay, of course, the color of your nano is probably not your top priority. Moving on. (hehe)
1. New Features - accelerometer (shake your nano, the song shuffles); you can view your photos, album art and videos in landscape or portrait, it's automatic when you tilt your nano to the side; incorporation of the Genius playlist feature (click on a song, activate Genius, and a list of similar sounding songs will be drawn up for you); if there are any other new features I missed, feel free to add.
Note about Genius, you need an iTunes account to be able to activate it.
2. Same Features, Just even better --> the fat nano was designed that way thanks to its video capability, the same is available in the 4th gen nano; same screen size, only this time you can watch your videos by watching in landscape view; dedicated hold switch is back on top; shorter USB port (still the same size though); same stock earphones unless you want to buy the better ones offered by apple (okay, so this isn't better, but anyway, there are other brands out there for earphones/headphones); bigger fonts available for menus. The latest nano seems brighter than its predecessor. As for battery life, I haven't tested it yet, as it's only on its 2nd day. Capacity is the same, 8G, which is a lot if you only have a modest collection.
The latest nano is a cross between the earlier nano models and the cute but short-lived mini, slimmer and has some of the perks of the iPod touch and iPhone.
