X-MEN: THE DARK PHOENIX SAGA
(Or, an Uber Vunderful Gift From Jat)

A classic story, one that can be said to be one of the finest moments in the history of the X-Men. Saving the universe from annihilation. Jean Grey merges with the cosmic Phoenix force and becomes the most powerful mutant on the planet. Mastermind manipulates her by directly projecting illusions into her mind, tapping into the dark recesses of her soul. Intoxicated with power, Jean Grey/Phoenix becomes Dark Phoenix and taps into her destructive powers.

One of the most powerful myths is the story of the Phoenix (e.g. Albus Dumbledore's mythical pet in Harry Potter), echoing themes of birth and rebirth. Claremont does a great job of incorporating the Phoenix myth into the popular imagination through the X-Men. He explores the dark side of unlimited power through Jean Grey, who struggles with the enormous burden of keeping her powers and her human weaknesses in check. The closer to evil she gets, the more she reaches her virtually limitless potential.

Before Jean Grey's death/resurrection as Phoenix incarnate became a running gag in later X-Men lore, we had the beauty and terror of the Dark Phoenix.

I'M ONE SIZE TOO BIG

Jat also got me violet blouses from Mango. Unfortunately, they clung to my folds at flabs so we're going to have to exchange them for something bigger (M to L, European size). :P I'm back to my salad diet but I need to exercise. Seriously. I want to be thin again. :(
