Vehicular Disaster @ Bo's Katipunan

According to a fellow uzi or usi, a truck crashed into Bo's after trying to cut in and overtake a motorcyle in its path. Three kids suddenly clambered up the back of the UP-katipunan jeepney and announced a la AM radio broadcasters, "Trak, bumangga sa may Bo's Katipunan! May isang trak na..." True enough, when we arrived at Bo's, there was a sizable crowd watching the coffee shop crew clean up the mess as best they could. There was no glass door or windows left to speak of, just shards of glass and debris all over. A Honda CRV was sandwiched between two other parked cars and the doorframe of Bo's and to its right, the bumper of a Hyundai starex was on the floor. A smashed Volvo closer to the road took the brunt of the truck's collision with the other stationary cars.

The security guard stationed outside the coffeeshop is in the hospital, and reportedly in critical condition. Customers on the ground floor were likewise taken to the hospital; there were shards of glass on the tables, even the one farthest from the window. There was a married couple inside the Volvo, and they are also in the hospital now. The motorcyle driver came under the truck and is in critical condition as well.

Bo's will prolly be out of commission for a couple of days or even a week. Jat commented that using safety glass would have prevented the splintering of the door and windows. They ought to either put a buffer between their vulnerable door and windows or invest in safety glass if they intend to continue in allowing cars to park so close to the glass.

It was a terrible scene, and brought back memories of some years ago, when Precious Lim, a UP student and Kamia dormer, died because of some maniac who crashed into the Kamia driveway from out of nowhere where a small table was set up for the open house concert. The CRV, sandwiched between the other cars and the doorframe reminded me of that tragedy.

What a disaster. All because of two guys who couldn't coexist peacefully on the road, even just for a few seconds.
