Pacquiao Days

When there is a major Pacquiao match, life in the country screeches to a grinding halt. The streets are deserted, and where there's a TV, there's a cluster of people around it. I'm not much when it comes to remembering dates, but I will always remember the Sundays that revolved around a Pacquiao match.

Though I am not a boxing fan, I am keenly aware of the love affair between Manny and his fellow Pinoys. Manny profusely declares his love for his motherland, we Filipinos are just as eager to reciprocate that love.

Manny has the hopes of our tiny nation in the palm of his hand, and with each successful fight, relives David v. Goliath. A nation with 96 million people, majority of which are living below the poverty line, has in its keeping a champion loved by the world many times over. At the very least, Manny gives us hope. Manny fights sincerely and enthusiastically for his country's honor. In the world of boxing at least, our country is on top thanks to him.

Mabuhay ka Manny! Painom ka naman! hehehe
